This website was developed under the project of the EU COST Action 99/Eurofoods (1995-1999) by Ian Unwin, 6 Chapmans Way, Over, Cambridge CB4 5PZ , U.K. in collaboration with Anders Møller, Danish Food Informatics, Borgediget 12, DK-4000 Roskilde, Denmark.

The Eurocode 2 Food Coding System was originally developed within the European FLAIR Eurofoods-Enfant Project "to serve as a standard instrument for nutritional surveys in Europe and to serve the need for food intake comparisons" (Poortvliet et al., 1991, page 4 - Internet Archive WayBack Machine 2020-01-16).
The website was originally maintained with the objectives of:

• reviewing and modifying the existing Eurocode 2 classification to remove or reduce some problems identified with the system
• making documentation of the system widely available.
